Hello Harry I would not have thought a complete reformat was necessary, just a reinstall of the OS but since your problems seem to have started after the reformat maybe it isn't a bad idea. I would recommend upgrading to XP with SP2, which is much more stable than W98. In fact, M$ ceased to support W98 after July 11 2006 so your system along with W98se, ME and XP SP1 are more vulnerable to attack. Have a look here:
