An upgrand would better as you say Rupert. Especially as some of the things
we now expect our computers to run and use from the web run far easier, and
often only in XP. XP is going real cheap these days on the net and at Ebay.

I would not have thought a complete reformat was necessary, just a reinstall
of
the OS but since your problems seem to have started after the reformat maybe
it
isn't a bad idea.  I would recommend upgrading to XP with SP2, which is much
more stable than W98.  In fact, M$ ceased to support W98 after July 11 2006
so
your system along with W98se, ME and XP SP1 are more vulnerable to attack.

Christmas isn't far off so write a letter to Santa for an XP SP2 upgrade
disk or
better still a nice shiny new pc ... then you CAN see what a flying pc looks
