Hello Harry

There must be other programs running in the background, which are preventing a
full scan. You could try one of the following:

1. Run scandisk from DOS

2. run scandisk in Safe Mode by holding down the CTRL key as Windows boots to
get to the menu where you can select Safe Mode - or press the F8 key repeatedly
during booting until you get the same menu. Select Safe Mode and try running
scandisk again.

3. There is also a free utility program called Enditall that will shut down all
background programs. There is an Enditall2 which is not free but there are
still some copies of the original floating around which a Google should find.
There is a copy here about half way down the page, I just d/l a copy and
scanned
it and it came up clean (always scan any downloads with your AV program prior
to
running) :

When I had W98 I used Enditall all the time prior to defragging so the defrag
could proceed unhindered by background programs.

Hi there Rupert Bear, Ian, and others.

It's funny that you mentioned upgrading, because now that I think
about it, the problem with this PC started not long after I told my
colleague that I was thinking of getting a new one. Weird coincidence.

Anyway, that aside, I'm not through with this demonchild yet. I ran a
Scandisk just now, and Scandisk couldnt complete the process. It
came back with the following message - "Scandisk has restarted 10
times because Windows or another program has been writing to this
drive". And I had nothing else writing at the time.

So guys, any ideas before I call in the big guns?

Harry
