Oh my! I had no trouble running Winword from the Run box,
and getting everything back the next time I tried it.

What I did after that was go through every macro I could
find, macros that appeared likely to cause me trouble, and
deleted those I no longer needed. That didn't improve
things, but losing McAfee chopped about 10-15 seconds off my
load time. I still don't know what to do about that problem.
