But if you have backups that will fit into a safe or that you can put  
somewhere off site then you are covered in the unlikely case of a  
fire. at the site where the computer is. You can buy a new computer  
but you can't recover unique files without a backup.

True, but you can burn newer copies. So far I have not experienced any  
gad disks.
