When windows is trying to start up, is the windows screen displayed? I 
don't mean the one with icons. I mean the windows starting screen.

It is obvious that a windows install is still on the drive. I believe 
something has happened to your video driver or card. Booting from a CD 
will let you know if it is a driver.
