I don't mean that the AMD processor is split. The company has split,  
details I don't remember.
And yes the reason was to 'keep ahead' but my explanation was I think  
more specific.

By splitting the one part of the company concentrates on developing  
processors. The other half is about not only manufacturing them but I  
think they can make money manufacturing stuff for other companies. The  
Cranky Geeks told the story but I don't recall the details, I think  
some kind of merger was involved, which I guess meant the influx of  
some cash.
