First off, you are referring to something not in evidence. I don't  
know that any virus has been written to damage a hard drive OR its  
controller. My reason for lack of concern over such a POTENTIAL virus  
is this: I thank that malware writers are concerned about profit, not  
harm to peoples computer today or at being a nuisance.

Some are, some may not be. But as I said above, they are about  
profiting not harming computers... at least that is what my favorite  
security gurus seem to believe.
