Shelley... I agree with the concensus here...Vista is here to stay, unlike Millenium or Windows 2000 (is that right?) which made a brief appearance and quickly exited the market place!! Vista will get you ready for the next generation of Windows, which will appear on the scene as soon as the public gets used to Vista. I had XP professional on my last laptop....and the transition to Vista was easy, not that much difference except you need more memory to run it...it would be a dinosaur on less than 1G of RAM. The transition from Win98 to XP was harder than XP to Vista... I agree, getting used to the security is the most difficult part of Vista...but the security is a good thing! I would go with the newest operating system...you'll be ready for the next upgrade! p ----- Original Message ----- From: Rupert The Bear To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, November 08, 2008 5:10 AM Subject: Re: [A-1-Computer_Tech] Dell - Vista
Hi Shelley Just to add my input I would go for the Vista OS, I can't imagine it is that much different to XP and so long as you have sufficient RAM it will be just as fast as XP. The only issue with me is what I have read about Vista being a bit of a "security freak" but I am sure you will get used to it and enjoy it just as much if not better than XP. I may hang on for Windows 7 because I drive a 7 and if it is anything like the car it will definitely NOT be slow :-)) Rupert http://www.caterham.co.uk/ O^O--------------- Rupert's Reply To ---------------O^O Hi, I got a call today from Dell. They have agreed to replace the computer with what I originally ordered but the catch is that they claim they no longer install XP. I specifically ordered XP because I had be warned about VISTA and all the problems associated with it. Even the Dell guy admitted that they get a lot of complaints about it. I would appreciate some advice, guidance and details about this dilema that I now find myself in. Thanks in advance. Shelley Avast ye land lubbers!
