Thanks, Rupert.

I tried what you suggested, but the screen resolution was already set
to 1024 x 768.  Just for the sake of argument, I moved the slider back
to 600 x 800 and back to 1024 x 768, then pressed ok.  There was no
change in size, but all my desktop icons did rearrange near the top
left of the screen.  Is there something else I can check?  I will try
restarting again anyway.
