Hi everyone, I first ran the Ssystem Restore. That got the job done, and my laptop up and running again.
I then tried to run the Checklist but it didn't seem to do anything. Maybe because system restore already fixed whatever prolbem there was? Anyway, I am happy that I got my computer 'back' again. Thanks, everyone. Wishing you a Happy New Year. So if you can't go to safe mode or don't know what to do if you can that leaves reinstall. That's why it is so important to back up your own unique data files. Nothing will recover them if they are still on your hard drive if and when if fails. The best thing to ever happen to computing IMHO is an external hard drive. :-) Hi: YES, You can do a system restore WITHOUT being able to boot Windows. As long as you can get into the [f8] Menu. There is a boot option to go into DOS without running Windows. One must select "Safe Mode with command prompt" and that will get you into DOS. Once into DOS the full path into System Restore is........ C:\Windows\system32 \restore\ rstrui Click enter and that will bring up the Restore calendar and a restore date can be selected. You can run chkdsk in similar way. In fact if one takes the time to learn the first 7 DOS commands he can do just about anything he could do with Windows including copying or moving his data or pictures to secure media. Vista may be more difficult, because of UAC, if you do not have elevated permission, and passwords, only If used, will be required. Also, Vista has a "Repair" Option that should fix that problem. Have fun. Bye Emile ************ **One site keeps you connected to all your email: AOL Mail, Gmail, and Yahoo Mail. Try it now.
