You can give this a shot. How To Reset Your Bios There are 2 ways you can reset your bios. 1. On the motherboard there is a small watch battery. Remove this battery along with the power cable from the power supply. Hold down the power button to fully discharge the system. Wait 2-3 minutes then reinstall the battery and plug in your system. Your reset is now complete 2. Some motherboards have a 3 pin jumper by the battery. Lets say that the jumper is on pins 2 and 3. Remove the jumper while the machine is OFF and place onto pins 1 and 2. Power on your machine for a minute. (Note: Your system will not POST). Shutdown your machine and put the jumper back to pins 2 and 3. Your reset is now complete Like other troubleshooting steps, this will not always work but usually will depending on the problem.

I have an HP desktop with Windows XP. I have never been able to reboot the computer from restart. It will only reboot into windows if I choose shut down, and then restart it myself. The computer came that way. I called HP several times, and all they wanted me to do was reformat the hard drive. Well did that a few times, and it never fixed the problem. I still cannot reboot from restart. I have had the computer a couple of years now, I probably should have taken it back and gotten another but didnt. So, finally it has annoyed me enough to see if anyone can direct me as to how to fix this dumb issue. OK, here is what it does from restart. If I click restart, it goes to what appears to be an ms-dos black screen with this <Type the name of the Command Interpreter( e.g., C:Windows\Command. com C> If I turn the computer off manually and restart it manually it will boot to windows. I thought perhaps the boot was messed up so went to the boot screen Boot Devise priority 1st boot device floppy group 2nd boot device CD-ROM group 3rd boot device HDD group 4th boot device network group I am thinking I need to change something, but have to admit I am not that familiar with XP so am hesitant to change it without some advice here. So please help.
