The router was also showing, that my computer was active.  So that 
definitely meant, my connection wasn't totally dead.  I did an online 
chat with a LinkSys tech.  He asked to see the serial number on my NIC.  
He needed it, to get me the right drivers.

Well, I guess by pulling the NIC out to tell the tech the serial number 
and, eventually re-seating it, it cleared up the problem.  So, I am 
composing this reply from my computer.
