Sometime I'm a little frustrated with the lack of information given by 
people asking for help. The original poster had stated that he could see 
that he was attached to the net. He didn't say how he could see this. In 
fact, if his network card drivers were not working, he was looking at 
the wrong thing. He was looking at the light on the network card.

In the OSI model, the hardware layer was working but he was not on the 
network.
