No, it's fine to un-check Quicktime - if you ever want to run it you can 
start it up from the Start, Programs list.

It could be a problem with the AOL software.  You could try seeing what 
version you are running and download it here to re-install it:
http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=aol
