Keep it updated and check your settings that it is running, that it is finishing. Check the log to see if it is getting rid of them or just finding them. I have mixed feeling about using Microsoft Security Essentials. It is free, no pop-up adds and it doesn't expire. Avast does better head to head IMO. AVG is good but takes a while to run, and tries to trick you into buying, I like Avira. But I would suggest running other programs once in a while. Malware Bytes, SuperAntiSpyware.
