Yes slowness sounds like one or more viruses.
MSE is good as is it easy to use and is color coded.
Green it is happy, orange - needs attention, red - a problem.
One downfall is it wants to be connected to the internet and update to 
install.
If you have no internet connection, the connection is not working or 
won't update.
You are dead in the water.
Most viruses stop internet connection or going to or gettting AV updates 
from the major players.
MSE is not a major player, so less viruses stop the program from running 
or updating or getting to the website.
I find it misses viruses/malware that others catch.
But as mentioned no one program catches everything, and it is best to 
not run two at once.
