I guess you miss the point, that NOT everybody knows that it is
broken. It is necessary to think about a new way to secure our
communication. At the moment it might be very expensive to do such an
attack. But what about the next couple of years? Hardware is getting
cheaper every day. The software defined radio community gets bigger.
And all the knowledge we already have is not going away. We learn more
and more each day about this technology. So it is necessary to push
the provider to move faster. And the easiest way to do so is
propaganda. Of course, it is not true that an average person can just
buy some USRP and together with some open source code he can
immediately capture and decode the calls from his neighbor. But it is
a picture which shows a future in which the most people don't want to
live. So the provider will react, no matter how real this is. It is
only necessary to push this topic to the media. And this target was
very successful succeeded via the talks. So I guess that is the point
in all of this.. Don't you think?
