I recall long ago a history of music in America course in college in which we discussed a hymnbook which served as the basis for most hymnals here in America. It contained two sections, first song lyrics with metrical categories, and second, the metrically grouped tunes which the song lyrics could be sung to.... it was called The Bay SomethingOrOther Hymnbook... I don't recall off the top of my head... I'm wondering, if anyone has endeavored to transfer it to an ABC project.|| Please do ! Sounds like a good project for somebody so inclined.
Quite a few of those Anglican Hymns are older folk melodies with newer words
attached. It might be amusing to hear people singing the original words
instead. :-) Several other hymns have tunes 'pinched' from the classical
repertoire. I guess someone could just take the easy way out and go straight
to the original.
