Dear Friend,
I am afraid, You have got all the false info about operating systems such as 
Linux and Unix. Till now, I haven't heard about a hardware crash due to 
these operating systems. Indeed, I have installed, and used Ubuntu in 
desktops as well as in laptops with effortless ease.
