But then Saksham was charging for the eloquence and the Indian voices for NVDA and for that Eloquence internet was only required while installing the package as registration was supposed to be happening at Saksham server. Now how can it happen that where there is a free eloquence is available (no crack) as John states, and at the same time Saksham is charging for the same. Strange?

Hi,
Both of you are not entirely correct.
The previous version of eloquence addon that worked with NVDA versions
older than 2019.3, was not cracked/ pirated in any way, but was not
authorised by Nuance or nvda either. It was developed by an
anonymous person because talks by the NVDA team had failed to acquire the
licence to it, as NVDA would then need to charge its users per copy of nvda
downloaded and used with eloquence as demanded by Nuance.
Codefactory later on started selling a version of eloquence which doesn't
work if you aren't connected to the internet so would be money down the
drain, specially for people in india, where internet connectivity isn't
exactly great.
The current version of the eloquence Addon is even more cleaner and avoids
those grey areas as its just the IBM driver, and people need to source the
copy of the eloquence synths themselves from something like the
older version of the addon, cursvale etc etc.
So whilst the statement that cracked software can not be used with nvda as
it's open sourced is incorrect (have seen a few around), The eloquence
addon that works with 2019.2 and older wasn't exactly piracy either.
Chil down and hold your horses, mates.
   hth some.

Hi,

I don't know where do you get your facts from as you have said "Since
NVDA is open source software & crack software can't work with this one".
As you remember, the previous eloquence was not a valid one and was
indeed a cracked one. I don't remember seeing anywhere anything being
said about eloquence being made open source. Being an open source
software doesn't mean you can not use some crack addon with that. And,
modding something to something and changing the name doesn't make that
thing one's property and eloquence was and remains to this day a
copyright property unless the original developers choose to declare it
open source which they haven't yet done. I will no more right on this
and will leave it for the moderators to decide. If you think you can
convince them for the legality of your post, I have no problem and have
nothing against you personally.

Hi,

Though Eloquence is no longer being developed, and previous one being
offered by the same site too, was not an authorized one, I wonder if
this can be considered as valid one as this is a modded version of
the previous Eloquence by the same people and may violate the
copyright laws. Using it or not is a personal choice but sharing it
on the group needs to be re-thought.

All
Pl find below a post from George which did not get on the list.
I am also responding with <Hk> inline.
Harish.

Quoting:
Just yesterday, I believe the latest update from NVDA was released.
I downloaded the same and installed. I was surprise when the
voice/speech had dramatically dropped in quality. No idea how I can
restore the earlier voice quality. Presently it is quite an
irritant to use NVDA. Any way out?
<hk> It is because most of the plugins have to be updated. You may
change the TTS to Windows Core voice for the present until there is
clarity and fix for the add-ons.
