Good News: The SBI e-Rupee app was previously not allowing the use of TalkBack,
making it completely inaccessible for screen reader users. This issue was
raised by one person on X (formerly Twitter), and I also tagged the relevant
authorities and followed up on the matter. About a week ago, he informed me
that the issue had been resolved. I'm happy to share that it was fixed within
two weeks.
This is why I always emphasize the effective use of X — it's a powerful tool
for raising accessibility concerns.
Secondly, in the latest update of the Sugamya Bharat App, Dark Mode has been
introduced, and the previously unlabeled buttons that caused inaccessibility
during login have also been fixed. When I first discovered this app over two
years ago, it was almost unusable — even the OTP wasn’t being delivered, making
it impossible to complete the initial steps. That’s when I began advocating for
accessibility improvements in the app.
After the OTP issue was resolved, the language selection screen remained
inaccessible. Other issues included the inability to submit complaints, lack of
Dark Mode, unlabeled buttons, and inaccessible or malfunctioning photo and
video upload features etc. Over time, however, the app has seen significant
improvements. I’ve faced many ups and downs in this journey toward making the
app accessible.
To summarize: advocacy remains incredibly important. Unfortunately, the app has
still not fulfilled its core purpose, even though it was launched in 2020. Just
two days ago, I reached out to the Joint Secretary ma'am and Secretary sir of
the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, urging them to
urgently resolve the remaining issues. I also made a post on X and tagged key
authorities to help accelerate the resolution process.
Kindly support by reposting, liking, and replying using the features on X:

Today, I requested @rajeshaggarwal sir to take urgent action to resolve
complaints registered on the Sugamya Bharat App. Till now, not a single
complaint has been resolved, making the app ineffective in the core purpose.

As you know, You can register complaints about accessibility issues related to
digital, transport, and infrastructure on the Sugamya Bharat App. If you are
not aware, this app is made by the government to solve accessibility issues
that persons with disabilities face in their day-to-day life. You should
definitely check it out once.
