Completely agree with K S Reddy. If we allow charity approach, we cannot expect
quality.

Subject: Re: [AI] Request for Guidance on Fee Exemption/Concession for Persons
with Disabilities in Private Universities.

Dear,
Since they are not funded by the government, they are not obligated to give
exemption for all these things.
Yes, lovely professional University maybe one of the universities that gives
exemptions.
But, that cannot be expected.
Moreover, when you are in a position to go to the private college bye Paying
the huge fee for your admission, would you not be able to afford the small fees
for your exams and other things?
Because, if you expect these kind of things from them, they will think this as
a charity.
Rather, look for scholarships, pay the fee and demand Accessibility.
I also heard of a university that gives education for people with disabilities
for free of cost.
But, my problem is that when we get anything for free, we cannot demand what we
need.
But when we purchase something, we have a right to question as a consumer.
As a student of the university, you are also consumer as you are paying the fee.

hi KONGALETI SATYANARAYANA,
what's the case with LPU then?
and, if the university shows that, they are doing this. So, I think UGC will
give them grants as well?

Dear Udit,

First of all, we have to remember that we cannot expect waiver of these fees
from private universities.
This is because, government universities get grants from university grands
commission, which Private Universities do not get.
And the main Moto of private University is to profit by providing quality
education.
On the other hand, government universities do not have intention of profiting
through providing quality education as they are funded by the government, which
works towards improving the education in the country, as this is one of their
main aims.
So, only the way that they can exempt you from paying fee is to get exemption
in the tax by claiming that amount as CSR.
Otherwise, they would never be able to run without taking fee from people,
including people with disabilities.
Their main intention is to earn profit not to provide education for people with
All abilities, including disabilities.
While their intention is to provide quality education, the underlying fact is
that they work for profit.
And government also may have provisions to incentivise the universities for
doing this like we have provisions for incentivising companies that hire
persons with disabilities.
However, The provisions in RPWD act cannot force Private University to waive
the fee as they work for this fee.

Hello everyone,

I hope you're doing well. I am currently pursuing my undergraduate degree (BCA)
at SRM University, Delhi NCR, Sonipat. I’m writing to seek advice regarding fee
exemption or concession for students with disabilities in private universities.

As you may know, private institutions often charge a wide range of
fees—tuition, examination, and other administrative charges—which can become
quite difficult to manage over time. I’ve heard that government institutions
have clear provisions for fee waivers or concessions for persons with
disabilities, and that private universities are encouraged to support such
students as well.

In fact, I recently came across information that Lovely Professional University
(LPU) offers a full programme fee waiver for students with benchmark
disabilities, including 100% visual impairment (that's what I herd based on
some follow up prompts with the AI). They also provide additional support such
as free residential stay for one attendant. This shows that private
universities can offer meaningful financial assistance to students with
disabilities.

I have already sent an email to the Registrar of my university regarding this
matter, but I would really appreciate any guidance or shared experiences from
others who may have gone through a similar process. I would also like to know:
- Whether SRM University has any formal policy or provision for fee concession
for students with disabilities
- What documents or steps are required to apply for such support
- If there are any government schemes that private universities are expected to
follow

Thank you for your time and support.

Warm regards,
Udit Pandey
