No, you won't lose data. I have deleted these files myself. Word creates
these temporary files when we open the original files again. Though I don't
know exactly, perhaps ms word creates these temporary files as a backup in
case something unusual happens, say a powercut. In such cases ms word offers
us a recovered file from these backups. This is just an idea, maybe I am
wrong. Besides, utilities like cleanup delete these .tmp files.

Amiyo.

What happens if we delete these files. Will we lose data?

George

Hello,

These dollar files in ms word are normally hidden files. If you turn off
"Show all files" in Folder Options, you will no longer encounter these
problems. Usually the last file you opened in ms word leaves a remnant like
this.

Best regards,

Amiyo.

Hi,

As far I know these files, names of which begin with ~ are temporarily
created by Microsoft Word for its own use. Generally such files disappear
once you close the original file. I haven't tried out with any setting that
enables/disables removal of such files after closing the original one.
Writing this email for you to know that there's nothing to panic about it
and remove the temporarily file without hesitation.
