Yes I completely agree. Thanks to BBC Sports I am able to understand not only football, but also Rugby, Formula 1 motor racing, Golf, Swimming, Horse racing (which is the best in my opinion, as it starts rather lazily and picks up pace as the horses edge closer to the finish line) and athletics.

Assuming one knows the layout of a football field, one could get a pretty good idea of what was happening. We need to apply the same principles to television. Of course, none of the commentators have been of any great quality. I have found the discussions to be very inane. I stick to reading live sports commentaries on the BBC website or, I read about the event on my website of choice this way, I get the key highlights of the event and do not need to spend too much time in wading through the commentary. Having said the above, I am not a keen sports fan. I may track very significant events but other than that, my interest in sports is very limited.
