Dear list,
I completely disagree with the idea of a separate staff room for the visually impaired.
We fight for integration, we don't want sympathy.
I feel that the visually impaired person should have patience and courage to make the sighted counterparts to take into consideration all our problems.
Thanking you

I am not College teacher and if any fact is wrong, it may be corrected by college teacher too. The fact about per day period is based on the statement of one of college teacher of DU, who is appointee on 2007. The fact about the students' strength is given on the bases of my college time between 1984-1987.
Regards,
Rakesh.

On what basis you can claim that a University/college teacher has to take
2-3 classes and the strength is not more that 30 students? Please correct
your facts and don't unnecessarily over-fascinate the college teaching, it is equally challenging in terms of managing and organising classes and other
activities.

There are some great difference between colleges and Govt schools specially
in Delhi and also some in between govt schools and my school. I am not
viewing so same for defending my personal point, it is based on my personal working experience of about 20 years in different 12 or 13 Govt schools, in
where, I have taught.

Mostly, in college, a lecturer / professor takes hardly two or three periods
in a day and strength of students is not more than 30 per class.
If road connectivity between two or three buildings are good and under reach
of VH employees nothing is possible.

But, in my present school, Principal office is in first building in where, every must has to present personally at the time of arrival and departure. Due to having vacant first period of each VH employee, all VH employees must
had to go common staff room in first period. My 2nd, 3rd and 4th periods
were in 2nd building, 5th and 6th periods were in third building, 7th period
was in again 2nd building and in 8th period, I had to go in common staff
room and then, at the end, I had to report principal office in 1st building at the departure time. This was the regular routine in whole last cession of
2008-2009 which was obviously very tidy for me.
Regards,
Rakesh.

Hi Kanchan, I fully agree with you. I have been teaching in a college for
the last thirty years and my lectures are spread over all the three
buildings of the college, and many times, my one lecture is on the third
floor of one building and the next lecture is on the third floor of
another building. But to maintain parity with others, I never grumbled
about this situation. I will never prefer any type of segregation due to
my own demands.
Yours,
Professor Shyam M. Sayanekar

Hi,
Everything seems to be working towards a better tomorrow. Only one thing
I
am not sure of Rakesh.
Should you have a seperate staff room for the visually challenged
teachers?
I would like to know what others think. My present thought is that maybe
it
is convenient but is this not exclusion and segregation.
Kanchan

Hi,
Thanks and same to you and also other teachers / professors
In one hand, Being a teacher of political science, this should be my very
first lesson for all my students to aware them about their rights and
duties
and specially how to use their rights with obeying their duties too. In
my
opinion, this is the main challenge before us.

But in other hand, due to having visually challenged person, at present,
I
and lots of us have to face various problems in our working institutions,
society and even our own family too, specially for getting equal
opportunities with dignity and honor, making our personal identity for
positive works etc.

However, We must have to fight more against different type of
exploitations
with firmed decision and extraordinary patience because we are in
minority
and our any harsh behavior may give wrong message to any part of society,
who use to try to generalize our any weakness with whole community of
Visually challenged persons.

Here, I would like to share some recent positive results with all of you.

May be, some friends know this fact that my nearest bank "Bank of Baroda"
Dilshad Garden Branch Delhi refused to provide me ATM/ Debit card and
internetbanking facilities in August of last year. Now, after long
positive
fight against the negative attitude of the bank and interference of RBI
(NEW
DELHI BRANCH), my bank branch has issued me ATM/DEBIT CARD on today,
although struggle against delaying for providing internetbanking facility
is
still continued.

Another news, my present working school is running in four buildings and
in
where, we four Visually Challenged teachers are working at present. We
all
VH teachers have been compeled to take our classes at least in three
buildings since long time.
After completing long writing process to higher authorities of our Delhi Government, all classes, to which we VH teachers teach, have been shifted
in
one building and one separate Staff Room has also been alotted to us in
same
building in July of this year.
Regards,
Rakesh.

Dear Friends,
I wish all the Teacher-members on the list a very very Happy Teachers
Day.
Today is the day for 'Self-introspection' for all of us belonging to a
profession which deserves more recognition than it currently enjoys.
I am pasting a poem which was I recieved from an online networking forum
named Bookbole.com.

Teachers are one of the greatest people we come across in life. They are
selfless givers and mentors for life. At every step, you come across
teachers who devote their entire life to the enlightenment of students.
We
are indeed honoured to share with you a poem titled "Treasure Trove of
Books" by Leela Jacob, an English teacher from Bhavan's Public School,
Baroda.

Treasure Trove of Books

Deprived of eyesight,
Milton didn't falter.
He reached his height
With Paradise Lost,
And Paradise Regained, later.

Books galore await your pleasure,
A feast for the inner eye.
Dive for the bountiful treasure,
Savour the thrill to the full,
Till you reach as high as the Sky.

For you we have 'bookbole',
Technology at your doorstep.
Everything is easily available.
Flex your intellectual muscles,
Till you plumb your own depth.

Team Bookbole
