Subject: Re: [AI] 'Signatures' Special Formalities for passport?

Hello,
No urgency at all. I tried learning signing, using that scale which small kids use, in which you have letters as blocks and there that much space you need to move your pen and the letter is made. But again it requires hell lot of practice and I didn't find this idea of learning shape that useful. Then I also thought of an option to make one scale of your name itself so just move the pen in those blocks, and you can sign that. But then it might be not valid because what if someone steals that scale? Although legally I think hand writing experts report can be obtained to make it valid in case of any dispute. But don't know whether I am in right direction or not.
Can you give me any other idea for learning on how to sign?
Somebody also told that on Eyeway radio show there was a mention of some card board, but he didn't know in detail as to what it was and from where to get it. I am totally blind by birth, no idea of shapes of letters, have both plastic and aluminum signature guides. I am not going on 15th now, won't be signing that illiteracy declaration for sure, first of all I will give my 100% effort for learning signature. Now there will be no otherwise kind of situation to this. If I want passport, I will learn signature. That's it. By no chance I want to sign any such illiteracy declaration. I remember, when I went for opening my bank account, my manager very politely said "Don't mind, you are pursuing Law, so, why don't you learn signing the form? I know you are educated, but still it is the thinking, that if you put thumb impression, it means you are illiterate". Though I just explained the problem that due to no vision many a times letters differ bit. This provision of considering persons with thumb impression as illiterate was enshrined in our constitution at the time of making, which is not wrong because it gives protections to rural masses, but makes no difference between the literate and illiterate person. I must appreciate CDSL's approach towards this, while opening demat account, they give instructions to the depository participants to put a remark for we VI as "Person with visual impairment and thumb impression". This directly or indirectly shows that they do make distinction between an illiterate and literate person. Anyways no doubts, the experience of all accessindians will make my task easier. So, a kind request from all of you to please share your views on learning signature on or off the list.
And thanks, for this good and positive approach.
Looking forward for ideas which may help me in my way.
Regards,
Amar Jain.

If you don't need passport urgently, then a suggestion: Why not learn
some kind of signature? It helps tremendasly when you apply for bank
accounts by using passport as a photo ID. Also, there are banks
insisting for signature if you happen to go abroad and try opening an
NRI account.

hi, unfortunately in our country if we are affixing thumb we have to
get it attested by a notary there will be one declaration form and all
the formalities required will be in the instructions of the physical
form. the authorities insisted me for a gazetted attestation on the
prescribed proforma and further insisted me to sign an illiterate
declaration along with it. notary authorization is compulsion.

hope it helps.

Dear All
I have filled up passport application online, and will be going to
passport
office on 15th of Oct. I have seen the website carefully, and have even
spoken with the office. The website as such makes no reference to
disability
or any special formality to be followed except disability certificate,
while
applying for passport, and the office helpdesk people were not sounding
like
very trained people. Therefore, I sincerely request you all to let me
know
that are there any specific formalities to be completed for the passport? I use thumb impression, so will I be required to get the form notarized?
I have to go to thane, which will take approx 1.5 hours from where I
stay,
and I will have to change two trains or one train and one bus at least.
Therefore, tell me everything from top to bottom.
Sorry for such an informal mail.

Amar Jain
