Reason is that though the Government came out with the UID with much fanfare
however, no sufficient teeth were given to UID by statute to be a unifying
single document for all identity needs. People specially
from marginalized segments who have been facing problems in availing welfare
schemes have placed high hopes on this document. However, it has not
received acceptance & backing from all ministries. Even stakeholders such as
groups of right activists citizen have opposed it tooth and nail on the
grounds of privacy of data and its vulnerability etc.. I consider this class
as those who want their Swiss Accounts to be considered as private and
secret. This is funny when the bank transactions in India are under
the surveillance of income tax men! Any transaction above 50K requires
compulsory disclosure of PAN Card No.
The end result is before you which is little sad. And mind you, the UID is
optional, you may not opt to apply for one!
