These aspects are difficult to adjust to when one has lost their sight
midway in life. The whole body is thrown into a state of chaos, both
physically and psychologically. At that stage, it is indeed difficult to
identify the passing of day and night fall. Remember, the individual took
all these available senses for granted and have no idea how to make the
residual senses do the job.

With passage of time, it is simply a matter of habit. Initially one may use
the elements mentioned by Vetri, but as time goes on, these become a part of
life's daily cycle and the body clock talks. A change in schedule like a
change of place can throw things out of gear. There will be some daily
sounds one will ultimately relate to, in fact, I think the smell of a
morning is different from that of the night, correct me if I'm wrong, but
I've noticed this.

Also, I used to wonder about the process of a completely sightless
person's ability to distinguish night and day. But when you think
about it carefully, it actually makes sense. There are sounds related
to day, early morning and of course nights. Besides, perhaps the
temperature and other similar elements can help him/her to distinguish
night and day. The only question is: What if one lives in a big city
where many of these elements are not easy to identify? Would love to
hear people's experience.
