Well, having subscribed to the group while browsing on the net without
any reference, I would certainly not vote in favour of having
restrictions on new membership. But the traffic has grown enormously
over the years. I think the more important job is to conduct a study
on the mails of the group and identify the areas in which the traffic
is increasing, and have alternative groups for such areas. For
example, we have lot of traffic on AI list for mobile phones which
clearly proves how much that group has contributed in restricting the
traffic on this group. Similarly, there is a group called. "visually
impaired bankers of India" which is a group for visually challenged
bankers having more than 250 members with decent traffic. going by
this, I think we must form more and more such specialised groups
keeping Access India for more generalised discussions. And once we
see discussions in a particular area growing beyond a limit,
especially when that area is not of interest to all, then alternative
group should be formed. Coming back to the idea of conducting a study
of the mails to identify such areas, a team can be formed to take up
the job. And, being a researcher, I would be more than happy to be
part of such a team. Thoughts awaited.
