We have to catch these people (who fake disability) and get them severely
punished.

Only that would deter people from faking disability.

Subject: Re: [AI] . Re:Fake certificates

Hi Bhiwani,
I just changed your subject line.
1. I have been told many times that on the basis of fake Disability
certificates, many get jobs. The information that comes to me is very
general and not specific. No one can point out who specifically
a. Has a certificate of higher disability
b. Has a certificate when he is not disabled

2. I know for sure that this is happening just like you know it but please
give me one name and if possible address then someone can take it up.
3. In Mumbai there was a small scam where BEST drivers were found to be low
visioned. This was found from an internal inquiry. None of the NGOS
complained. It was reported in the press but no one not even the
organisations who work for the visuallly impaired lodged their protest or
commented about it. I think I posted this on this list.
4. There was another newspaper article which mentioned that in 2 districts
in Maharashtra most of the government teachers did not want to get
transferred so they used the excuse that they were either partially deaf or
partially blind. This is again newspaper reporting. What happened next?
5. I have also read about students claiming to be orthopedically disabled in
Gujrat and once caught were disbarred from exams.
6. there is a similar story from Karnataka.
7. One of the access india members from Delhi told me last year that while
he was giving bank recruitment exams many at his centre were not disabled
but had fake certificates. Did he call the NFB, NAB or AICB I dont know. 8.
You are aware that we are fighting this omnibus litigation in Maharashtra in
which we have been getting great orders. There is the issue of recruitments
that took place in 2006. I can tell you surely that the government is not
taking up that issue nor is any of the NGOs or their lawyers bringing it up
though I have put it in Suhas Karnik's affidavit. Is it too late? What
should we have done then? Is it more or less important than Nileema Surve's
appointment and the giving of gadets etc which caught the attention of the
court and diverted it from these issues.
Now lets discuss how we can deal with these situations. Can we prevent
them. Are we going to complain to the authorities.
Whose responsibility is it ?
