Just for your fear... it is not good to be scared it is good to be cautious. It is your attitude that matters. If you can build complete confidence in yourself and in the world, and learn to look and address the good side of people, even a hardened criminal will not harm you. Am speaking out of experience. Remember everyone wants to be loved and respected, even a criminal! No one wants to be looked at with suspicion and mistrust. So when you look at people with love and respect, and humbley ask for assistance, it usually works for you in the positive. I have done just that! I am now 55 and have been roaming around without cane, telling everyone that I need help and assistance. People all have a good side, criminals are also having a good side. Yes, having said that, accidents do happen, and they do. But not so much. If you have to meet with an accident, it will happen to you even in your own house. It does. But why think that accident will happen to you? Remember, thoughts become things! Think positive and all good will happen. ' Warmly'Preeti

Subject: Re: [AI] Article: The Mark Of Cane Using cane is actually up to the mindset of each and every human beings. Me also being a visually impaired girl feel very much frustrated to hold a cane and walk lonely over the roads, as it is not at all a secured way. Though many of the institutions have tried to build confidence in me... till now, i never ever felt it as secure. moreover, rather than asking a stranger in the road in between our walk, especially without knowing their mentality, behaviour and appearance, it is better to take one known and reliable assistance, who cares for us with their complete efforts na??????? However, though we say a lot that we can understand everybody with speaking and all, sometimes we really require their face and appearance, as for instance, if we find a popular criminal on road and if we beg for his assistance also we never come to know! then who will take care of the further consequences? I don't want to completely reject the uses of cane, for few it may be really useful. but, it is not ultimate. it is a traditional/temporary alternative to just depict the walk of visually impaired. But, if I think as a visually impaired girl, I feel that, we really require a great evolution of technology, which really makes us safe, secure and provide self-guidence rather than simply depicting us as visually impaired and increase insecurity, taken for grantedness and mercy among both good and bad commuters. It is just my opinion and not an impossition. I am just telling my experiences and my personal feelings about cane... the final decission is left to the individuals...
