Hi I had seen this live when he happend to visit us at Mumbai. He makes clicking sound with his tongue.He listen's to that sound after it comes back to him. With this he makes a mental picture of the surroundings. It is indeed amazing how much he can get out of it.
We took him to a couple of places which he went for the first time in his life and he was able to negotiate very well. May I add, he also uses a cane, there is nothing special of the cane, except it is of a different dimension and he uses it differently.
