Hi all, I am jumping into this thread so my point may have been covered. <snip If the integrated or inclusive education is the only solution, then there is no requirement of special schools. the blind community should either support special school or inclusive education. both can not run at a time. PL] I come from an inclusive education environment. I have taken 3 services from institutions of the blind namely, Braille instruction, mobility training and library and scanning services. An absolute stance is counterproductive. I used to believe that inclusive education is the way to go for everyone. I am told that this is not always the case. There are students with multiple disabilities and or behavioural problems who need the environment of special schools. We need more inclusive education for sure but we cannot wish special institutions away.
A poster has commented that private schools listen. Well, it takes a significant amount of pursuading and working from the ground up. Are students in private schools better able to advocate for their needs than those in government schools? I do not know because my contact to government schools has been limited to the examination center for my twelth standard board exam.
