Greetings Brenda...
Database design is actually rather universal and covers more than just
Access... Further good Database design is not always found... I've had to fix
many databases...
One of the best ways (for me at least) is to take a sort of real world project
and start the design process. You should have a complete road map of what you
plan to do prior to even touching the database itself. Note that road map
might change but you should have one none-the-less. On a plus note you can
ask questions about your design and we can help as needed. I predominately a
VB Programmer -- Database as a backend rather than a straight Access Developer.
In answer to the question about getting a certification... it will help get you
past some HR people since they look at with little knowledge of how little it
means. Yeah okay so you can pass a test but do you really know how to
program? The answer often to this question seems to be --- No. Still it might
help you get your foot in the door, however, doing projects even probono for
someone does a lot more for you many times than passing a test. You just need
to decide where you want to put your energy.
