Every version I tried prior to 2.6.38-8 for the past 3 years has worked very
well. I currently use Ubuntu 10.10 with a 2.6.35-31 kernel. The system runs
very smoothly on this kernel.

It does not speed up unusually when I boot to the affected kernels, if that's
what you are asking. The core temperatures appear stable.

> Does Windows do the same thing, or different?

I haven't run Windows on this laptop in a very long time, but it was never as
slow as these newer Linux kernels (as much as it shames me to say it). 

Thanks for the attention. This is a real show-stopper for folks with this model
laptop.
