I too have this issue. It's horrible to deal with honestly... As with others
ACPI=off or suspending laptop and unsuspending it fixes the problem, however
the few minutes it takes to boot up such that you can get to the point of being
able to suspend it is a frankly a nightmare. I'm on Asus N51Vn as well, and
would appreciate anything that would solve this problem properly (without
having to disable ACPI which is critical for proper battery usage).
