Agreed, something has absolutely gotta be done.  I'm more than happy to provide
whatever info hasn't already been provided. I would like someone to at least
specify what information is still needed.

I've been having to run ACPI=OFF for at least 2 months now (prior to that
running an old kernel version that wasn't affected).  This means no CPU speed
stepping, laptop always running hot, and a heap of power saving and thermal
protection features disabled.
