You don't have to store the WEB files in the preferences folder, just the Active4D.ini file. However, like us, you probably don't want to do this.

So, as I understand you correctly, if I "move" the Active4d.ini file to the Preferences folder (which I could "live" with) then I can define in the Active4D.ini the actual physical location of the "web" folder?

I don't believe you can redefine the A4D root directory, but by setting your "safe doc dirs" in the Active4D.ini file you can execute A4D files outside of the A4D root (Chapter 3). I haven't tried this with the web folder but we do it with other files. Referencing files in the web folder could get messy when switching between uncompiled and application as the number of directories change (contents/ database added in application)

What we would like is if A4D would also search the 4D Data File directory for the Active4D.ini file.

Well, for a standalone application, it does make sense to store the .ini in the Preferences folder as that is the normal place where all other Mac applications store their preferences (although it would typically go in "Application Support")

Yes, but unfortunately our clients run Windows Server and they lock down the WINNT folder to application access. To be consistent, A4D should look in /Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/ on Windows.

Bottom line, if I can define WHERE the application should look for the web folder, I think all would be fine.

I think that may be an enhancement request :o)
