If you're going to sync of a BDC, take it off line and then upgrade, your
basically doing an upgrade of your existing domain. You won't be able to
change your NetBIOS name to something different so you will end up with two
domains of the same NetBIOS name and SID. Not a good plan.

If you want to do an upgrade, sync a BDC, take it off line, then upgrade
your production domain. if you upgrade fails, take all your DC offline,
promote the offline BDC to PDC and your back to where you were. You have no
migration issues and most clients will not notice a thing except for the
outage.

Reading your messages, I get the sense that you have not done your homework
as far as the upgrade is concerned. Upgrading from NT 4.0 to AD is
something that you should plan out well and TEST before you do anything to
your production domain. There are a lot of issues in the design that you
have to account for.

Have you tested your plan yet?

Diane
