I'm wondering how it gets a true flat file backup without stopping the
services.  Is it quiescing the database in some way?  I didn't think that
was possible in E2K.

If you were running E2K3 I would guess they were using WSS (rather than a
flat file) but in the scenario you describe - well, I have to ask - have you
ever tested to make sure you could use one of those backups if you needed
to?
