David,

If your looking at compiling & installing modules from CPAN on WIN32. Here
are the basic steps in accomplishing it.

# 'nmake' is needed. Its a free download from MS.
# 'cl.exe' is needed. The free download of the .Net Framework includes this
compiler.

It may be less of a hassle if you have VS install on WIN32 though.
www.devside.net has very good instructions on how to build Apache, MySql,
and various other modules in the WIN32 environment. The compilation and
installation process won't vary too much between various software products.

The typical compilation and installation process on WIN32 for module source
downloaded from CPAN is:

1. perl makefile.pl
2. nmake
3. nmake test
4. nmake install

Be sure to review the 'readme' and/or 'install' file of every module because
it may have specific instructions for building the module.

I would recommend taking the time to learn how to utilize CPANPLUS or CPAN
because these modules automate the build and installation process of CPAN
modules. CPANPLUS is the newest of the 2 modules.
