At Ohio State, we have a few (up to 10, maybe...we're inventorying them this
month....) policies that require board approval, either by law or historical
tradition. We've been working to eliminate board approval of policies for the
last 8 years. As we update our policies, those that are approved by the board
will be noted in the "history" section of our template. It hasn't been noted
in the past, and we had to rely on long-term folks just to know what needed
board approval and what didn't.

All university-wide policies, board approved or not, are managed by designated
Responsible Offices. The university policy process is managed by the policy
office, which is part of our Office of University Compliance and Integrity.

Subject: [acupa-l] Distinction Between Board Policies and Presidential
(Administrative) Policies

Hello,

At Rutgers University we are in the process of refining our "policy on policy"
and are most interested in learning what criteria/definitions others are using
to distinguish between "Board" policies and "Presidential" policies. Please
also include in your response whether the Board" policies are managed by the
policy office or a Board office.
Thank you for your feedback. Best.
