Subject: [acupa-l] Policy Office

Good morning,

As we work through the analysis of our policy development process, we have
found that we may want to recommend to the University that they create a Policy
Office - or, at the minimum a full time position dedicated to policy management
(not approval, just management of policy). I thought I could reach out to this
group and see what your experience has been. I am looking to find out:

1 - Do you have a Policy Office / Manager? Yes
2 - If so, what are the responsibilities of the Policy Office? See attached
job description
3 - How is it staffed - how many people and what are their duties? 1 person -
me! See attachment. I also have one staff member who assists with employee
compliance & technology training and 1 staff member who assists with new
employee orientation & supervisor on-boarding. My position is Director of
Policy, Compliance and Leadership Development (making the most of "other duties
as assigned" ha!)
4 - What is the reporting structure - does the Policy Office/Manager report to
the President/Chancellor or maybe the General Counsel? Report to Executive
Director of Policy, Risk & Compliance, who reports to the SVP for
Administrative Services/CFO.

Historical Information - this is a new office & position that has only been
officially recognized in the last 2 years. ACUPA was instrumental in assisting
me to move this forward. It took a couple of years of working on policy,
gaining trust and delivering quality products and processes, but it finally
happened. This continues to be a work in process. Feel free to call me anytime
to chat - or find me at this year's ACUPA conference.

Thank you all for your help in our endeavor.
Ellen
