Hi Melinda:

Our Activities and Programs with Minor
Participants<https://hr.osu.edu/public/documents/policy/policy150.pdf> policy
does not address your question regarding hazardous materials/spaces. However,
our Office of Environmental Health and Safety does publish governance documents
that are not university policies, but do address - to varying extents - your
question. You may be interested in the following:

Biosafety Manual
http://ehs.osu.edu/FileStore/Biosafety%20Manual/Complete%20BSM.pdf States the
following with respect to minors: "Be aware that while allowing unpaid
volunteers (both minors and adults) to work in the laboratory is a department
level policy, if allowed all volunteers must take all of the required safety
training prior to beginning work in the laboratory."

Radiation Safety Stanadards
http://ehs.osu.edu//FileStore/Radiation%20Safety/Radiation%20Safety%20Standards.pdf<http://ehs.osu.edu/FileStore/Radiation%20Safety/Radiation%20Safety%20Standards.pdf>
(pp 16 and 17) Section VII Personnel Monitoring Programs (pp 15 and 16 of 49)
addresses badges for minors.

Safety Management Guidebook
(Attached) Has a section entitled "Minors in Hazardous University Environments"
(pp 53 and 54).

Thanks,
Christie

Subject: Minors in Laboratories OR Minors and use of hazardous materials

Colleagues - could you provide me information about any policies or procedures
you might have that address the presence of minors (non-students under age 18)
in areas that use hazardous materials, biohazardous or infectious materials, or
any radioactive substances, or where physical hazards exist? Areas might
include laboratories, greenhouses, animal facilities, animal procedure rooms,
and animal housing areas for example.

Thank you.
