Yes, you can. You cannot do a rename with an Exchange server on a DC.

I think you'd better go check the docs again... I have done a couple of domain rename's with an Exchange Org in existence... Clustered Exchange servers too. Now, you *can* remove the Exchange Org without a total disaster, if you know what you're doing. A lot of the necessary steps have been documented in the Swing Kit, by Jeff Middleton (www.sbsmigration.com <http://www.sbsmigration.com/> ). Note that this is not in any way supported or recommended by Microsoft. -- Durf On Tue, May 13, 2008 at 2:17 PM, Michael B. Smith <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Exchange Servers cannot be renamed. Period. So, there are no easy ways. Some are easier than others, but none are easy. Regards, Michael B. I have one domain with two DCs...one of which is also an Exchange server. This domain (company.com)is used by two organizations that now want their own separate networks. One organization will keep the current server hardware. It was decided that the other group would be small enough to use SBS 2003. The tricky part is that the org moving to SBS is the one who controls the name for the existing domain and will use it on their network. So, do I demote one DC and then create a new forest and domain, then setup a trust and migrate everyone? Do I run the risk of totally screwing Exchange since it is on a DC? Is it best to setup a new domain and migrate users to that or try to rename the current one in place.
