Prof. Verginius Xaxa belongs to a tribal community Oraon from Chhattisgarh, has written extensively on tribes in the country. His book, "State, Society and Tribes: Issues in Post-Colonial India," was published in 2008. His 1999 article "Tribes as Indigenous People of India" is often cited as essential reading for an understanding of India's tribal communities.Prof.Xaxa is Adivasi. He is Head of the Commity Apointed for study of Tribals Situation in India on 27th August 2013 by Dr. Manmohan Singh.Prof.Xaxa is also a member of Planning Comission Of India.As Adivasi We must be proud of him.This commity is not only for Maharastra but for All Indian Tribes.
