The thing is to reduce the amount of times you
compress a file. Compressing over again
increases the chance of artifacts or other
undesirable characteristics in your
video [Clumps, Quilts etc].
If you need more info "DVD Demystified" is
a good reference book. [check your library]
So..Files and abuse of files...
MiniDV ->
DV/DVPRO [1x] > AVI[2x] >MPG2[3x]> VOB [4x]
so (using Premiere Pro)
Exporting out to MPG2
[2x]
using DVD Encore to build "Video_TS"
[3x]
done.
(Premiere Pro does not recognize my DVD-R
so I can't Export to DVD either).
For family DVD's I just build a "Video_TS" folder
and use NERO to burn it as a Video DVD.
BTW Some capture cards let you capture
straight in as MPEG2.
Pinnacle's DC1000 [I use at home-Win2K]
lets me capture to MPEG2...good enough
that SpruceMeastro thought it was one of
it's own.
MiniDV > MPEG2 [1x] >VOB [2x]
(I capture somewhere between 6 to 8 megabits)
done.

Mike
