Hi, I am new here. I came here to see if I can find out the best way to convert my old analog tapes to the digital format needed to use this program. I was not aware that it was necessary when I bought the program. Thanks, Stan ******************************************* RESPONSE Stan, By "the program" I presume you mean Adobe Premiere Pro. In order to turn your analogue material into digits you can approach the problem in several ways. 1) Purchase a capture card for your computer which has analogue inputs (usually s-video and composite) as well as the normal Firewire (IEEE 1394) input. These cards contain A to D circuitry to do the digitisation for you. Various manufacturers make these items and there are internal and external versions. Products made by ADS, Adaptec and Canopus are well spoken of. There are other manufacturers as well but take advice from previous users before selecting a Pinnacle or a Dazzle product. Some come bundled with versions of well known editing software. 2) Use your camera (or a friend's camera) as a digitising device. Many cameras enable you to feed an analogue input (video and audio) into the camera when in VTR mode and a digitised version appears at the DV out Firewire socket. Not all cameras offer this facility and you may need to study the handbook to see if it is available and whether any menu settings need to be made. Another point to bear in mind is the opposite facility of outputting a signal in analogue format from your editing equipment. You may need to make copies of edited items on VHS for friends who don't have DV. The two approaches 1) & 2) above will normally work as D-A as well but if you are making a purchase it would be as well to check carefully that your selected product offers the facility if you think you might need it. 73, Julian Bristol, England ------------------------ Yahoo!
