As long as my understanding, if you have a firewire capable camera, it should be supported even if it's not listed there. I've used cameras that aren't listed there and had no problem capturing it through firewire to my computer. I've used Premiere 6.5 and Pro 1.5, never experienced what you had... Do you have enough computer power to work with?
